The Moment I Stopped Hiding My Desire

The room was dark, my eyes closed, and Mike’s voice led me deeper into the fantasy of giving in to another man’s attention. He described small details, the way Jim might kiss me, how it might feel to let someone unfamiliar come close.

I resisted at first, embarrassed even by the thought of saying another man’s name out loud. But Mike kept me right on the edge between reality and imagination, until everything inside me tightened and all hesitation dissolved.

Against all my usual boundaries, I whispered Jim’s name, letting the moment sweep over me. The intensity between Mike and me surged, and any doubts I had were drowned out by the force of my desire.

The next day Mike didn’t bring up anything from the night before. He gave me space to sit with my thoughts, and the more I replayed everything in my mind, the more I had to admit that the idea of being with another man… didn’t scare me anymore. It even sounded exciting.

“Let’s do it,” I blurted out the following evening while we were sitting in front of the TV.

Mike turned to me. “Do what?”

“I’ve been thinking… let’s invite Jim over. See where it goes.”

He asked again, gently but firmly, making sure I wanted this for myself and not just to fulfill a fantasy of his. When I reassured him, he made the call. From the way they spoke, you would’ve thought they’d known each other for years. Then Mike passed me the phone.

“Hello. So you’re the beautiful woman your husband’s been bragging about,” Jim said with warm confidence.

While Mike went out to meet him in person, I stayed home, my mind racing.
What if Jim didn’t find me attractive after all?
Or… what if he did?

As I sat alone, the uncertainty hit me full force. I kept questioning myself, wondering whether I should call Mike and tell him to forget the whole thing. But I couldn’t. The anticipation was too intense — equal parts nerves and desire.

I distracted myself by getting ready, just in case the evening unfolded the way we’d discussed. It was summer, so I slipped on a simple pink sundress — nothing provocative, just light and easy. Though if I was honest with myself, a quiet part of me chose it because it made me feel… accessible. Open to possibility.

“They must have met by now,” I kept thinking as I paced the living room. Each passing minute made my heart pick up speed. The idea that a stranger — someone I had never even met — might walk through my front door soon felt surreal and electrifying.

Then came the knock.
Exactly the signal Mike said he’d give if Jim was with him.

“Oh God,” I whispered, frozen for a moment before forcing myself to breathe and prepare for whatever was coming.

Mike came in first, embracing me briefly. He leaned in close and whispered, “He’s interested.” Then he stepped aside.

“Kara, this is Jim.”

Jim approached slowly, took my hand gently, and—surprisingly—kissed the back of it. There was nothing predatory in the way he looked at me. Instead, he seemed almost respectful, his eyes warm rather than hungry.

“You look beautiful,” he said softly before stepping back. Then, with a playful grin, he added, “May I see your ID? I just need to make sure I’m not about to lose my entire Air Force career.”
